Rs 549 covers finding the leak and making one accessible repair: a re-jointed or re-taped connection, a replaced washer, cartridge or seal, a re-seated flush valve, a clamped or re-threaded exposed section of line. The commonest cheat in this job is not overcharging, it is the cosmetic fix. A wet patch gets filled, puttied and painted, the wall looks dry for six weeks, and the water has been arriving the whole time. We do not treat a symptom and bill it as the repair, and where the honest answer is that the line inside the wall has to come out, we say so and quote it rather than sell you a patch. Concealed work is Rs 1,800 to Rs 4,500 plus making good, quoted from a photograph before we open anything and confirmed once it is open. Two things worth knowing before you book. An exact tile match on an older floor is usually not obtainable, so opening a wall or floor almost always leaves a visible repair, and we tell you that first rather than after; tile cutting and refixing is Rs 150 to Rs 350 a tile where a match exists at all. And a damp patch that is not fed by a pipe at all, the seepage from a shared wall, a failed terrace or rising ground damp, is a different job on our waterproofing page, where the same honesty applies to what internal treatment can and cannot do.
