Rs 2,499 rebuilds one distribution board of up to 8 modules, wired to IS 732 and the Central Electricity Authority safety regulations of 2010. This is the one job on this page where the cheat can kill somebody, so it is set out in full. What goes in: an incomer isolator, a 30 mA RCCB covering every socket circuit, and a separate MCB per circuit sized to the cable and not to the load. The RCCB sits upstream of the socket MCBs. Whether the lighting circuit sits under it too is a genuine trade-off, protection against nuisance tripping in the dark, and we will explain it and let you decide rather than decide it for you. Cable, where we run it: 1.5 sq mm copper for lighting, 2.5 for a 6 A socket circuit, 4 for a 16 A socket circuit and 6 for a geyser or an air conditioner, all FR PVC insulated copper to IS 694. Earthing: every socket earth is tested for continuity and the readings written down. A house earth above 5 ohms is not an earth. If yours reads badly we tell you, quote an earth pit separately, and we will not sign off a board sitting on a dead one. The four cheats, named. Aluminium cable sold and billed as copper, which is why we leave the drum label with you. An MCB with a mark on it and nothing behind the mark, which is why the boxes stay with you too. An RCCB fitted where it protects nothing, or omitted altogether, which is the commonest board in this city. And the worst of them: a bigger MCB fitted to stop a nuisance trip. That is not a repair. A 32 A MCB in front of a 2.5 sq mm cable is a device that will let the cable burn before it trips, and we will not fit one at any price.
