Rs 699 buys two hours of a carpenter on site with tools, for the repairs that are worth doing in the room the furniture is standing in: re-gluing and clamping a loose joint, replacing hinges and drawer channels, re-fixing a dropped shutter, easing a sticking door or drawer, re-fixing a lifted laminate edge, and tightening and re-seating knock-down fittings that have worked loose. Hardware is not in the price. A hinge is Rs 60 to Rs 250, a soft-close hinge Rs 180 to Rs 450, a drawer channel pair Rs 180 to Rs 900, a handle Rs 80 to Rs 400, all at printed MRP with the packaging and the bill left with you, and you are welcome to buy them yourself at no change to the labour. If the work overruns two hours we tell you at the two hour mark, quote the extra at Rs 300 per additional half hour and get your agreement before continuing. Nobody is billed after the fact. Two things this listing will not do, because doing them dishonestly is how this trade earns its reputation. Polishing is not squeezed into a repair visit: it needs the piece stripped back and then left alone to cure, so it is quoted separately at Rs 90 to Rs 160 a square foot. And water-swollen particle board does not come back. Glue holds a swollen board together for a few months and then it opens again. We will say that, price a replacement shutter, and let you decide, rather than take payment for a repair we already know will fail.
