The Shuunnya promise

A refrigerator that prints its usable litres, the units its star rests on, and the fact that we have no service network yet.

  • Storage volume 173 L inside a 190 L gross cabinet, declared to IS 1476 (Part 1)
  • 4 star resting on 130 units a year, with the label period named beside it
  • 36 dB(A) at one metre to IEC 60704-2-14, the method printed with the number
  • 2 years comprehensive and 10 years on the compressor, part only, stated as two

Details

A direct cool single door refrigerator for a two or three person home, written around the two numbers this category is least honest about: how much of the cabinet you can actually put food in, and what the star on the label rests on. The litres on the box are gross volume, the whole inside measured empty. Once the cooling plate, the door liner, the chiller box and the shelves are in it, you get less, and IS 1476 (Part 1) calls that smaller figure the storage volume. Almost nobody prints it. Ours is 173 litres of storage volume in a 190 litre gross cabinet and both are on this page. The second number is the star. A BEE star is a band, not a measurement, the bands are re-cut on 1 January in most years, and a star with no kilowatt-hour figure beside it and no label period named is a shape on a sticker. This one is 4 star under the label in force from 1 January 2026, resting on 130 units a year, which at Rs 8 a unit is Rs 1,040 a year, about Rs 87 a month.

  • Storage volume 173 L of 190 L gross, 196 L of 215 L, 219 L of 240 L, declared to IS 1476 (Part 1), with 15 L of that the chiller compartment on the 190 L
  • 4 star on 130 units a year for the 190 L, 142 for the 215 L and 156 for the 240 L, with the label period printed beside the star because the bands move
  • 36 dB(A) at one metre at steady state, measured to IEC 60704-2-14, which is the airborne noise method written for refrigerating appliances, so the number can be compared with somebody else
  • Inverter reciprocating compressor, hermetic, R600a with a 42 g charge, no HFC
  • Manual defrost with a base drain, so there is no defrost heater to burn out. The trade is that you defrost it yourself about once a month, and a direct cool cabinet that is never defrosted loses cooling and gains units
  • Toughened glass shelves, 4 mm, load tested to 25 kg each. The thickness and the load are the claim; the word toughened on its own is not
  • Operating range 135 V to 290 V with a built in cutout. Below 135 V it stops rather than runs, which is the protection working and not a fault, and the brochure range you see quoted as 130 V is usually the point at which a compressor stalls rather than the point it still cools at
  • The door gasket is the part that ends most refrigerators and almost nobody sells one. Ours is a magnetic profile that pulls out of its channel by hand, stocked for 10 years at a published price, and the door liner is not bonded to the panel so the gasket channel stays reachable
  • Warranty is 2 years comprehensive on the whole appliance and 10 years on the sealed compressor, part only. Those are two different promises and that is why they are written as two. Gas charging and labour on a compressor claim are chargeable and the prices are published
  • There is no Shuunnya service network. Not a small one, not a growing one, none. The spares are real, held from a bank bought with the first production run and against tooling in our name, but until a service route exists in your district a claim inside the comprehensive period is settled by replacement or refund rather than by an engineer at your door, and we would rather write that down than print a city count we do not have
  • Installation is nothing at all: a level floor, 100 mm behind, 50 mm at the sides and a 6 A socket. Stand it upright for 4 hours after it arrives before switching on, because the compressor oil has to drain back, and switching on early is how a new refrigerator is killed in its first hour
