The Shuunnya promise
The airflow figure that matters is the one measured through a real duct, and it is printed next to the flattering one.
- Free-air and installed airflow to IEC 61591, with duct, bend and pressure stated
- Noise measured at 1 m with the duct fitted, at full speed and at speed one
- No mesh to buy, not maintenance-free, and the auto clean cycle skips the blower
- 2 years comprehensive, 7 on the motor, spares held 7 years on tooling we own

Details
A kitchen chimney whose airflow figure is published twice, because the single number on every other box in the aisle is the flattering one. Suction is measured to IEC 61591, and free-air means the blower running with nothing attached: no duct, no bend, no non-return flap, no back pressure. Fit that same hood the way it will actually live, on a 150 mm duct with a 1.5 metre run, one 90 degree bend and a flap, and the delivered air falls by roughly a third. So a hood advertised at 1500 m3 an hour is moving something closer to 950 over your hob, and nothing in that claim was technically false, which is what makes it the neatest cheat in the category. Ours publishes both: 1250 m3 an hour free-air on the 900 mm and 780 at that installed operating point, around 130 pascals of static pressure. The noise number is measured the same honest way, with the duct fitted, at one metre, at full speed, which is where 52 dB(A) comes from. A figure taken on the bench with no duct, or at three metres, or quietly on speed one, will always be lower and will always be useless. The third claim to be careful with is filterless. It is true that there is no mesh or baffle to scrub or replace, and it is not true that there is nothing to clean, and anyone selling filterless as maintenance-free is lying to you. The oil still condenses. It runs into a collector cup you empty. The blower wheel and the inside of the canopy still need wiping every few months, and the auto clean cycle is a heater that warms the collector so the oil runs off rather than setting. It does not clean the blower and we are not going to say it does.
- Airflow published twice, to IEC 61591: 1000 m3/hr free-air and 620 installed (600 mm), 1150 and 710 (750 mm), 1250 and 780 (900 mm)
- The installed figure is taken through a 150 mm duct, 1.5 m run, one 90 degree bend and a non-return flap, at about 130 pascals of static pressure, and that condition is printed with it
- 52 dB(A) at 1 m at full speed with the duct fitted, 38 dB(A) on speed one, both against a 34 dB(A) background
- Motor input 165 W (600 mm), 190 W (750 mm), 220 W (900 mm), so an hour at full speed on the 900 mm is about Rs 1.76 at Rs 8 a unit
- Use the 150 mm duct that comes in the box. A 120 mm duct, which is what gets used when the hole is already in the wall, costs you about a third of the delivered air and adds roughly 4 dB
- No mesh and no baffle to scrub or replace, and no charcoal cartridge to keep buying. There is an oil collector cup you empty
- Auto clean is a thermal cycle that warms the collector so oil runs off instead of setting. Run it fortnightly with daily frying. It does not clean the blower wheel or the canopy, and those still want a wipe every few months
- Motion sensor and touch control, plus a plain manual speed switch that keeps working when the touch panel does not, which is the part that fails first in a hot greasy kitchen
- Two 3 W LED lamps, replaceable one at a time, not a sealed strip that takes the whole canopy with it
- Duct, non-return flap, clamps, wall template, motor, blower wheel, control board, touch panel and sensor are all stocked with printed prices
- Installation is not included and we do not have installers. The duct, flap, clamps and template are in the box, and the manual gives the mounting height, 65 to 75 cm above a gas hob and 55 to 65 cm above induction, the duct run and the electrical requirement, which is one earthed 6 A point. You arrange a local fitter and we take no cut of what he charges
- A chimney is only as good as its duct run. Two bends, a long horizontal, or an exit into a closed shaft will cost more air than any difference between brands
- It is a fan over a fire. At full speed, with a 150 mm duct moving 780 m3 an hour, the air is doing about 12 metres a second and you can hear the duct as well as the motor. That is why the figure is 52 dB(A) and not 40

Filtration, cleaning and fitment
- Filtration
- Filterless with an oil collector cup. No mesh, no baffle, no charcoal cartridge
- What filterless does not mean
- It does not mean maintenance-free. Empty the cup, and wipe the blower wheel and canopy every few months
- Auto clean
- Thermal cycle that warms the collector so oil runs off. Run it fortnightly with heavy frying. It does not clean the blower
- Lamps
- Two 3 W LED, replaceable individually, not a sealed strip
- Duct
- 150 mm aluminium duct, non-return flap, clamps and wall template in the box
- Mounting height
- 65 to 75 cm above a gas hob, 55 to 65 cm above induction
- Electrical
- One earthed 6 A point, Class I with earth, 180 V to 250 V
- Installation
- Not included and not offered. We have no installers. Everything the job needs is in the box and in the manual, and you arrange a local fitter. We take no cut of what he charges
Spares, warranty and service
- Owner-replaceable
- Oil collector cup, LED lamps, duct, non-return flap
- Technician-replaceable
- Motor, blower wheel, control board, touch panel, motion sensor, manual switch
- Fasteners
- Philips and T20 Torx, canopy lifts off, no adhesive
- Spares period
- 7 years from purchase
- What makes that real
- A spares bank bought with the first production run, a seven-year supply clause in the manufacturing agreement, and the tooling held in our name
- Comprehensive warranty
- 2 years, parts and labour
- Motor warranty
- 7 years, separate from and additional to the comprehensive cover
- Excluded
- Poor airflow caused by the duct run rather than the hood, grease build-up where the cup has not been emptied or the blower not cleaned, damage from an incorrect installation, and damage caused by a repair attempt. Emptying the cup and changing a lamp void nothing
- Service
- There is no Shuunnya service network yet, so there is no engineer count, city list or on-site turnaround time to promise, and there is no installation visit either. In warranty we settle by repair, replacement or refund and we send the part to a fitted unit. Out of warranty the service manual and part prices are published so any competent local technician can do the work
