The Shuunnya promise

Brass you can weigh, an efficiency figure measured per burner against the standard that sets it, and a flame failure device on every burner.

  • Forged unplated brass, mass printed per size, so plated aluminium cannot pass
  • Thermal efficiency to IS 4246 on the production burner, published per size
  • Flame failure on every burner, cut within 30 seconds, mains ignition, no battery
  • 2 years comprehensive, 5 on the brass burners, spares 7 years on tooling we own

Details

A built-in hob with burners forged from solid brass, and the reason we print the brass mass rather than the word brass is that brass-plated aluminium exists, is common, and is indistinguishable until it pits. Brass is 8.5 grams per cubic centimetre and aluminium is 2.7, so the same burner in the two materials differs by a factor of three on a kitchen scale. Ours weigh 180 g on the 1.0 kW small, 240 g on the 1.75 kW medium and 380 g on the 3.0 kW triple ring, unplated, and they dismantle fully for cleaning because there is not a rivet in the assembly. The second thing worth knowing is what an efficiency claim means here. IS 4246 sets 68 percent as the minimum thermal efficiency for a domestic LPG stove, so 68 percent is the floor and not an achievement, and a stove sold on a high-efficiency sticker with no test figure behind it is telling you nothing at all. What is worth publishing is the measured figure per burner on the production unit: 70.1 percent on the small, 69.2 on the medium, 68.4 on the large. The third is the safety device. A flame failure device is a thermocouple that shuts the gas when the flame goes out, and fitting it to one burner while the box says the hob has it is a standard trick. Every burner here has one.

  • Forged brass burners, unplated, mass printed per size, fully dismantlable with no rivets in the assembly
  • Thermal efficiency measured to IS 4246 on the production burner: 70.1 percent small, 69.2 percent medium, 68.4 percent large triple ring. The standard's floor is 68
  • Flame failure device on every burner, not on one, cutting the gas within 30 seconds of the flame going out
  • The 3.0 kW burner uses about 235 g of LPG an hour, so a 14.2 kg cylinder is roughly 60 hours of it. A litre of water in a covered vessel boils on it in about 2 min 51 s
  • Mains auto-ignition off the supply, so there is no AA cell to replace twice a year and no dead ignition on the morning you need it
  • 8 mm toughened glass top with a 5 mm bevelled edge, toughened to IS 2553 Part 1 and fragmentation checked, rated for a 20 kg vessel over each burner area. 6 mm glass sold as 8 mm is the other quiet substitution in this category
  • Burner cups in SS 304, 0.8 mm, not painted mild steel that rusts under the first spill
  • Cast iron pan supports, each one a separate part you can replace, rather than a single welded frame that has to be scrapped whole when one arm cracks
  • Burner sets, knobs, ignition electrodes, thermocouples and pan supports are stocked with printed prices, and a PNG conversion kit is a catalogued part rather than a service visit
  • Installation is not included and we do not have installers. The cut-out dimension is published per variant, the manual carries the ventilation and clearance requirements, and the LPG or PNG connection must be made by a competent person. You arrange that locally and we take no cut of it
  • A built-in hob needs a counter cut and it is not reversible. Measure the cut-out against your slab before you order, because the 4 burner needs 720 mm of clear width
  • Brass discolours. It will darken and it will show heat rings within a month, and it will still be the same burner in five years, which is the trade being made

Comprehensive warranty
2 years, parts and labour
Brass burner warranty
5 years, separate from and additional to the comprehensive cover
Excluded
Glass breakage, discolouration and heat marking of brass, damage from an incorrect installation or an unregulated gas supply, and damage caused by a repair attempt. Dismantling the burners to clean them voids nothing
