The Shuunnya promise

A front loader whose drum volume is printed beside its kilograms and whose bearing is a part rather than a write-off.

  • Drum volume 53 L for the 6 kg, at the IEC 60456 dry cotton loading
  • 46 litres a full cotton wash at 40 C, against 118 from a top loader
  • Split outer tub on bolts, so the drum bearing is a replaceable part
  • 2 years comprehensive and 10 years on the direct drive motor, part only

Details

A front load machine with a direct drive motor and a split outer tub, and a page that prints the two figures the category hides behind a kilogram. The first is drum volume. Dry cotton needs 8 to 10 litres of drum for every kilogram, so a machine sold as 8 kg with a 55 litre drum is claiming 6.9 litres a kilogram and cannot actually take the load. Ours are 53 litres for the 6 kg, 62 for the 7 kg and 70 for the 8 kg, which is 8.8 litres a kilogram, and the kilogram is the IEC 60456 loading of dry cotton to the marked line rather than a number chosen by marketing. The second is the drum bearing, which is what ends most front loaders somewhere between year six and year nine. On almost every machine sold the bearing is pressed into a sealed plastic outer tub, so a Rs 900 bearing becomes a Rs 9,000 tub assembly and the machine is written off instead. Ours has a split outer tub on bolts. The bearing is a bearing. That single decision rules out most existing tooling in this category, which is exactly why it is worth making.

  • Drum volume 53 L (6 kg), 62 L (7 kg), 70 L (8 kg), printed beside the rated kilograms, which are the IEC 60456 dry cotton loading
  • 46, 52 and 58 litres of water for a full cotton cycle at 40 C, against 118 litres for the 6.5 kg top loader on the next page. At four loads a week that is about 13,700 litres a year of difference, and it is the strongest argument for a front loader that exists
  • 5 star on the BEE washing machine label, resting on 0.097 kWh per kilogram per standard cotton cycle at 40 C, which multiplies out to 0.58 units on the 6 kg, 0.68 on the 7 kg and 0.78 on the 8 kg, close to Rs 5.50 a wash at Rs 8 a unit. Most of that figure is heating the water, not turning the drum: the same load on the cold cycle draws about 0.19 units
  • Split outer tub on bolts, so the drum bearing and the shaft seal are replaceable parts and not a reason to replace the machine. No welded tub seam and no bonded front panel
  • Direct drive BLDC motor with copper windings, 500 W rated, bolted straight to the drum. No belt and no pulley
  • Stainless sheathed heating element, 1,800 W, reachable behind the front panel on four T20 screws. Above 300 ppm inlet hardness the element scales, and a scaled element is the commonest front loader failure in India, so the element is a stocked spare at a published price and the descale programme is on the dial rather than buried in a submenu
  • Drum in SS 304, 0.6 mm. A grade is a claim; the words stainless steel are not
  • Door bellows stocked as a spare, because the bellows is the part that goes sour in humid weather and the part nobody can buy. The drain pump filter opens from the front without moving the machine
  • 1400 rpm maximum spin, leaving about 50 percent residual moisture, against about 72 percent from a top loader at 780 rpm. That figure decides how long your clothes take to dry and it is almost never printed
  • 48 dB(A) washing and 72 dB(A) at 1400 rpm spin, both at one metre to IEC 60704-2-4
  • 2 years comprehensive on the whole appliance and 10 years on the direct drive motor, part only. Two promises, so they are written as two
  • No Shuunnya service network exists. Spares are held 10 years against a bank bought with the first production run and tooling held in our name, and until a service route reaches your district a comprehensive claim is settled by replacement or refund rather than an engineer. We will not print a number of cities we do not serve
  • Installation is not included and is arranged locally at your cost. It needs a tap, a drain and a level floor, and the four transit bolts must come out of the back before it is switched on. A front loader run with its transit bolts in destroys its own suspension in one cycle, and it is the commonest installation mistake there is. The spanner is in the box and the bolts go back in if you ever move house

Product information

Capacity, water and energy
Rated capacity
6 kg, 7 kg or 8 kg of dry cotton, loaded to IEC 60456
Drum volume
53 L, 62 L, 70 L, which is 8.8 litres per rated kilogram
Water, full cotton at 40 C
46 L, 52 L, 58 L
Energy
0.097 kWh per kg per standard cotton cycle at 40 C, so 0.58, 0.68 and 0.78 units
Energy, cold cycle
About 0.19 units. Most of the 40 C figure is heating the water
BEE star
5 star on the washing machine label, on the figure above
Cost a wash
About Rs 5.50 for a full 7 kg load at 40 C at Rs 8 a unit
Motor
Direct drive BLDC, copper windings, 500 W rated, no belt
Drum
SS 304, 0.6 mm
Heater
Stainless sheathed, 1,800 W, ambient to 90 C
Spin
400 to 1400 rpm, leaving about 50 percent residual moisture at 1400
Noise
48 dB(A) washing, 72 dB(A) spinning, at 1 m, IEC 60704-2-4
Hard water
Descale programme on the dial. Above 300 ppm the element scales, and that is the usual cause of death
Programmes
16, including quick 30, heavy cotton, wool, descale and drum clean
Repair, spares and warranty
Outer tub
Split and bolted, so the drum bearing and shaft seal are parts and not an assembly
Front panel
Four T20 Torx screws, no clips to snap and no adhesive
Owner replaceable
Drain pump filter, detergent drawer, inlet hose, inlet mesh
Technician replaceable
Door bellows, door lock, heating element, drain pump, inlet valve, shock absorbers, drum bearing, control board
Diagnostics
Fault codes on the display and published in the manual, with no dealer only mode
Spares
Held 10 years, from a bank bought with the first production run and against tooling held in our name
Comprehensive warranty
2 years, parts and labour, on the whole appliance
Motor warranty
10 years on the direct drive motor, part only
Not covered
Coins and pins in the pump, and damage from running with the transit bolts fitted
Installation, service and what does not exist yet
Installation
Not included. Arranged locally at your cost. Tap, drain, level floor, 6 A socket
Transit bolts
Four, at the back. They must come out before the first cycle. The spanner is in the box and the bolts go back in when you move
Floor
Level and solid. A front loader on an uneven floor walks, and the feet adjust for that reason
Service network
None. No centres, no engineers, no turnaround promise, because we have not built one
A claim today
Replacement or refund inside the comprehensive period, and the part shipped to you beyond it
