Details
Seven blood panels, a urine routine with microscopy, a 12 lead tracing, five measurements taken in the room, and a twenty minute review of the whole thing by a registered practitioner. The cheat in a full body package is that its contents are never printed. You buy a number of parameters, not a list, and the number is inflated with whatever is cheap to run. So here is the list, and here is the arithmetic. Forty one reported blood values: twenty from the blood count, one fasting glucose, one HbA1c, five in the lipid profile, ten in the liver profile, three in the kidney profile and one TSH. FIVE of those forty one are not measurements at all, they are sums done on other values: indirect bilirubin, globulin, the albumin to globulin ratio, LDL and VLDL. If you are strict, the five absolute differential counts inside the blood count are derived too, which takes it to ten. All ten are marked as calculated on the report rather than counted as findings. It is also not a check of your whole body. There is NO imaging in it. No ultrasound, no X-ray, no echocardiogram, no scan of anything. Nothing in this package looks inside you except the ECG, and the ECG looks at electrical activity and nothing else. The name on the shelf is the name the market uses, and this paragraph is here because the name is wrong. And it is not sold as early detection. This page makes no claim that a yearly blood panel finds anything early, prevents anything, or changes an outcome. What it does is produce a set of numbers with the ranges beside them and a practitioner who reads them back to you in plain words, so that next year there is something to compare against. That is the whole of it. One piece of arithmetic worth doing before you book. If forty one values each have a 95 percent chance of landing inside their range, the chance that ALL forty one land inside is about 12 percent, roughly one person in eight. On average two of the forty one will read outside range in somebody perfectly well. The tests are not fully independent, so the true figure is a little kinder than that, but the direction is right: some abnormal values are expected, and a package that hands you a sheet with two flags on it and no one to explain them has sold you two months of worry. Nobody here is paid for ordering a test or for sending you anywhere. No commission on a referral, no target on a panel, no revenue share with any laboratory, imaging centre or hospital. That matters more than an accreditation, because an accreditation says the machine was right and says nothing about why the test was asked for. Vitals Clinic at A.P. Colony is not open. There is no practitioner in post, no premises registration and no appointment book, and this page does not pretend otherwise. What is written here is the specification: the qualification the role requires, the register the person must appear on, and the licence the premises must hold. Booking opens when those exist, and not before.
- 41 reported blood values across 7 panels, itemised below, with 5 marked as calculated
- Urine routine and microscopy, a resting 12 lead ECG, and height, weight, body mass index, blood pressure and pulse
- A 20 minute review by a registered practitioner, reading the report back line by line, with a written plain language summary
- NO imaging of any kind. No ultrasound, no X-ray, no echo, no scan
- No cancer marker, no PSA, no thyroid antibody and no vitamin panel padded in to lengthen the list
- Fasting 8 to 10 hours, water allowed. About 45 minutes at the clinic for sampling and the tracing
- Not sold as early detection, and no outcome is claimed anywhere on this page
Product information
The 41 values, panel by panel
- Blood count, 20 values
- Haemoglobin, red cell count, haematocrit, MCV, MCH, MCHC, RDW, total leucocyte count, five part differential as percentages, five absolute counts (DERIVED), platelet count and mean platelet volume. EDTA tube, automated analyser, smear examined by hand on any flag
- Fasting glucose, 1 value
- Hexokinase or glucose oxidase peroxidase, fluoride oxalate tube, 8 to 10 hours fasting
- HbA1c, 1 value
- HPLC or immunoturbidimetric. It reflects average glycaemia over roughly the preceding 8 to 12 weeks, weighted towards the recent weeks. It reads falsely low where red cells are short lived, and haemoglobin variants can shift it either way depending on the method
- Lipid profile, 5 values
- Total cholesterol, triglycerides and HDL are MEASURED. LDL and VLDL are CALCULATED by the Friedewald equation, LDL = total cholesterol minus HDL minus triglycerides divided by 5. That equation stops working above roughly 400 mg per dL of triglycerides, at which point LDL is not a measurement, it is arithmetic that has failed
- Liver profile, 10 values
- Total bilirubin, direct bilirubin, AST, ALT, alkaline phosphatase, total protein and albumin are MEASURED, seven values. Indirect bilirubin, globulin and the albumin to globulin ratio are CALCULATED, three values
- Kidney profile, 3 values
- Blood urea, serum creatinine by enzymatic method, and serum uric acid
- Thyroid, 1 value
- TSH by immunoassay. Free T3 and free T4 are NOT in this package and are added only with a written reason
- Urine
- Routine and microscopy, reported as one panel and not counted into the 41
- Heart
- Resting 12 lead ECG, 10 electrodes producing 12 views, paper speed 25 mm per second, calibration 10 mm per mV. A tracing, not a parameter
- Measured in the room
- Height, weight, body mass index (calculated), blood pressure and pulse
- The count, stated honestly
- 41 blood values. 5 are pure arithmetic on other values. Strictly, 10 are derived once the absolute differential counts are counted. All derived values are labelled as such on the report
What is included, what is NOT, and who provides it
- Included
- All sampling, all consumables, the 41 values, urine routine with microscopy, the ECG, the room measurements, and a 20 minute review by a registered practitioner with a written plain language summary
- The review is the point
- A packet of paper handed across a counter is not a health check. The 20 minutes is inside this price, is not optional, and is not a two minute glance at the flagged lines
- NOT included, imaging
- No ultrasound, no X-ray, no echocardiogram, no scan of any kind. Nothing here looks inside you
- NOT included, markers
- No cancer marker, no PSA, no thyroid antibody, no vitamin D or B12. Any of them can be added with a written reason and is quoted before it is run, never after
- NOT included, specialist
- A referral is arranged where the review calls for one. The specialist fee is theirs and is separate, and we earn nothing on sending you
- Who provides it
- Sampling by a person holding a diploma or degree in medical laboratory technology or a nursing registration. The review requires MBBS with current State Medical Council registration checked against the National Medical Register. Nobody is in post
- The laboratory
- Not built. No analyser bought, no quality control record, no external quality assurance history. ISO 15189 accreditation through NABL is not held and not applied for
- Referral and commission
- No commission on a referral, no target on any panel, and no revenue share with any laboratory, imaging centre or hospital. A test is asked for when the answer would change what you are told to do, and not otherwise
- When this can be delivered
- When a registered practitioner is appointed and the premises registration under the Clinical Establishments Act 2010 is granted. Not before. Nothing on this page describes a service running today
What it does and does not mean, and if something goes wrong
- What a reference range is
- A reference range is the interval that covers the central 95 percent of a reference population. By construction 1 healthy person in 20 falls outside it. A value inside the range is not proof of health and a value outside it is not proof of disease. It is a number that needs reading beside you, not a verdict printed on paper.
- The arithmetic of 41 tests
- If each value has a 95 percent chance of sitting inside its range, all 41 sitting inside has a probability of about 12 percent, about one person in eight. On average two of 41 read outside range in somebody entirely well. The tests are not fully independent so the real figure is a little kinder, and the point stands
- What this package does NOT claim
- It does not detect anything early, prevent anything, screen for anything or rule anything out. Those are four separate claims and this page makes none of them. Screening a person without symptoms changes outcomes only for a short list of specific conditions in specific age groups, and a general annual blood panel is not that list
- What it is for
- Producing a set of numbers, with ranges, read back to you by somebody qualified to read them, so that next year has something to be compared against
- A failed sample
- Repeat draw and repeat run at no charge, including a second visit if fasting has to be repeated
- A queried result
- Re-run from a fresh sample at no charge, refunded in full if the first was wrong
- If the review does not happen
- The 20 minute review is part of what you paid for. If it is not delivered, the difference between this price and the sum of the individual tests is refunded
