Details
Most kitchen wiping cloths in India are knitted polyester and polyamide microfibre, or regenerated cellulose sold pre-moistened in a plastic pouch. A microfibre cloth sheds microscopic synthetic filaments down the sink with every rinse, and a moist sponge cloth requires a chemical preservative—commonly isothiazolinones or quaternary ammonium—to prevent mildew from colonising the sealed pack before sale. This cloth refuses both. It is manufactured from seventy percent FSC-certified wood cellulose and thirty percent unbleached non-GMO cotton, packed bone-dry and board-stiff in a simple paper band. When dry, its water activity is below 0.30, a state in which bacteria and mould cannot metabolise or divide; it requires no chemical biocide, no humectant, and no plastic wrapping to keep fresh.
- 100% Plant-Derived Composition: Exactly 70.0% FSC-certified regenerated wood cellulose and 30.0% unbleached non-GMO cotton linters. Zero synthetic fibers (0.0% polyester, 0.0% polyamide, 0.0% acrylic).
- High Liquid Retention (14x–16x): Liquid Absorptive Capacity (LAC) tested to ISO 9073-6:2000. A single 9.0 g dry cloth absorbs between 135 ml and 144 ml of liquid, soaking up spills in a single wipe without leaving a wet trail.
- Instant Wetting & Pore Expansion: In its dry state, the cloth is 1.9 mm thick and stiff. The instant it touches water, its cellulose fibrils hydrate in under two seconds, expanding thickness to 4.5 mm (a 2.4-fold expansion) into a soft, supple, pliable sponge wipe.
- Physical Self-Preservation (Bone-Dry Delivery): Shipped dry (moisture < 7.0%, aw < 0.30). Zero isothiazolinones (MIT/CMIT/BIT), zero magnesium chloride humectants, and zero biocidal finishes.
- 100% Undyed & Unprinted: Natural unbleached cream colour. Zero synthetic azo dyes, zero reactive colourants, zero surface printing inks to bleed onto food-prep counters or kitchenware.
- Food-Contact Certified: Complies with German LFGB §30/§31 and FDA 21 CFR 177.2260 standards for articles in contact with foodstuffs. Zero chemical migration into food or counters.
- Baby-Grade Human Ecological Safety: Meets OEKO-TEX Standard 100 Class I criteria for heavy metals, formaldehyde, pesticides, and skin-sensitising residues.
- Rapid Home Compostability: Certified to NF T 51-800 and EN 13432. Disintegrates into nutrient-rich garden soil within 6 to 12 weeks in a domestic home compost bin without synthetic residues.
- Displacement Economics: One cloth lasts up to 9 months (~270 washes), replacing 15 rolls of paper towels (900 sheets, retail value ~₹975). A ₹83 cloth saves ₹892 over its lifespan while eliminating bleached paper waste.
- 100% Plastic-Free Architecture: Bound simply by a 300 gsm FSC-certified virgin unbleached kraft paper band printed with vegetable-oil black ink. Packed in 3-ply unbleached corrugated shipper boxes.
Product information
Materials and composition, in descending order, with percentages
- Full list
- Regenerated Wood-Pulp Cellulose (70.000%), Unbleached Non-GMO Cotton Linters (30.000%)
- Regenerated Wood-Pulp Cellulose
- 70.000% w/w. Derived from FSC-certified sustainable Scandinavian softwood dissolving pulp (alpha-cellulose > 92%). Totally Chlorine Free (TCF) bleached. Forms the highly porous capillary sponge matrix.
- Unbleached Cotton Linters
- 30.000% w/w. 100% natural, unbleached, non-GMO seed cotton linters. Retains natural tensile fiber strength, providing mechanical tear resistance (>28 N wet tensile) across repeated wash cycles.
- The 100% natural fiber sum
- 70.000% Cellulose + 30.000% Cotton = Exactly 100.000%. Zero synthetic polymers, zero binders, zero plastic mesh.
- Porogen (Transient processing aid)
- Sodium Sulfate Decahydrate (Mirabilite / Glauber's salt). Blended into viscose paste; 100% leached out during hot-water regeneration baths to create the porous open-cell sponge structure. Residual salt < 0.10%.
- Chemical additives and finishes
- Zero percent. No softeners, no humectants (glycerin/MgCl2), no optical brighteners, no antimicrobial finishes (triclosan/silver/quats).
- Colorants and printing inks
- Zero percent. Undyed, unbleached natural warm cream. Zero surface printing, zero pigment migration.
What is left out, and what took its place
- Microfibre (Polyester and Polyamide)
- Replaced by 100% plant fibers (70% wood cellulose + 30% cotton). Cleans counter surfaces through natural capillary suction and micro-roughness rather than plastic micro-filaments. Sheds zero microplastics into waterways.
- Chemical humectants (Glycerin, Magnesium Chloride)
- Eliminated entirely. We pack the cloths bone-dry (moisture < 7.0%, aw < 0.30). They feel board-stiff in the pack but soften in 2 seconds upon contact with tap water, eliminating chemical residues.
- Preservatives and biocides (Isothiazolinones, Quats, Triclosan)
- Eliminated entirely. Physical self-preservation through low water activity (aw < 0.30) prevents microbial proliferation in storage without chemical biocides.
- Synthetic dyes and decorative printing inks
- Eliminated entirely. Kept 100% undyed and unprinted natural cream to prevent chemical ink migration onto food-preparation boards or wet kitchenware.
- Chlorine bleaching (Elemental Chlorine / ECF)
- Replaced by Totally Chlorine Free (TCF) oxygen and hydrogen peroxide bleaching of wood pulp, preventing organochlorine and dioxin formation.
- Single-use plastic bags and wrap
- Replaced by a 300 gsm FSC-certified virgin unbleached kraft paper belly band and 3-ply corrugated shipping cartons. 100% plastic-free packaging.
Use, care, lifespan and displacement
- First use and activation
- Rinse thoroughly under running tap water before first use. The board-stiff dry cloth hydrates and expands in under 2 seconds into a soft, pliable sponge wipe. Wring out excess water before wiping.
- Daily kitchen cleaning
- Wipes countertops (granite, marble, quartz, tile, stainless steel, laminate), sinks, dining tables, cooktops, and glass panels. Absorbs liquids, sauces, milk, and coffee spills without smearing.
- Washing and care
- Rinse with clean water and mild soap after each use, wring firmly, and hang or drape over faucet to air-dry. Dries rapidly to prevent bacterial and odour build-up.
- Periodic deep sanitisation
- Machine wash with household laundry at up to 60 C (140 F), or place damp cloth in top rack of dishwasher, or submerge in boiling water for 60 seconds. Alternatively, microwave a soaking-wet cloth for 60 seconds on high. (WARNING: Never microwave a dry or damp cloth).
- What to avoid
- Do NOT use with concentrated chlorine bleach (bleach degrades natural cellulose fibers). Do NOT tumble dry on high heat. Do NOT use as an oven mitt or hot-pad on open flames.
- Lifespan and durability
- Designed for up to 200–300 wash cycles (approx. 6 to 9 months of daily kitchen use per cloth). Replace when the fiber matrix begins to thin or fray.
- Paper towel displacement
- One cloth displaces approximately 15 rolls of standard paper towels (approx. 900 individual sheets), saving substantial paper waste and cost.
- End-of-life disposal
- 100% home compostable. Cut into small 2–3 cm strips with scissors to accelerate aeration, and place into home compost bin, vermicompost, or soil. Decomposes into organic humus in 6 to 12 weeks.
