Details

A shirt-pocket notebook, 90 mm by 140 mm, sixteen folded sheets stitched through the fold with two wire staples, in a 300 GSM kraft cover with rounded corners. Two numbers on a notebook are quietly cut and both are measurable in a minute. The first is grammage: a book printed 90 GSM that measures 68 to 72 is ordinary in this aisle, and you find out when a gel pen goes through. The second is the page count, and the trick there is the word page itself. Sold honestly, a page is one side, so 64 pages is 32 leaves. Sold dishonestly, page and leaf are swapped whichever way flatters the number, or a signature is trimmed out and the cover still says 64. We measure the grammage on a cut disc from the finished book, and we count the leaves.

  • 64 pages, which is 32 leaves and 64 writable sides. On this store a page always means one side, and we print the leaf count beside it so there is nothing to interpret
  • Text paper measures 90 GSM to ISO 536 on a disc cut from the bound book, tolerance plus or minus 3 percent, so 87.3 to 92.7
  • Opacity 93 percent, ISO 2471. A ballpoint or a 0.5 mm gel written on one side does not read through as a distraction on the other
  • Fountain pen friendly, and here is what that actually means. With an extra fine, fine or medium steel nib there is no feathering and no bleed-through. Ghosting on the reverse is faint but visible. A broad or a wet italic will show through and the reverse becomes a notes side rather than a fair copy side
  • Saddle stitched through the fold with two nickel-plated steel staples, 48 hours neutral salt spray to ISO 9227 with no red rust, because a plain staple in a shirt pocket through a Bihar July stains the cover
  • It opens completely flat, which a saddle-stitched book does by construction, and lies flat at page 32 as readily as at page 2
  • Cover 300 GSM uncoated kraft board, unlaminated. No plastic film, which also means the cover will mark and soften with use. That is what an unlaminated cover does
  • Acid free to ISO 9706, elemental chlorine free with AOX under 0.2 kg per tonne. ECF is not chlorine free, and this store does not round that up on any paper item
  • Virgin fibre, no recycled content, and no leaf printed on the wrapper to suggest otherwise
  • Ruled at 6 mm, which is close ruling for a small page. If you write large, take the softcover instead
  • Rs 99.50 a book at two, Rs 93 at three, Rs 85.80 at five
