Eight live sessions of 75 minutes on Hindi reading and writing, with Magahi, the language actually spoken around Gaya, taught alongside it in its written Devanagari form. Most people here speak Magahi at home and have never once seen it written down. Magahi is usually treated as broken Hindi, which is not a small discourtesy but an error: it is a language with its own vocabulary and its own texts, and it is taught here as one. The course covers letters and matras, sentence building, formal letter and application writing of the kind an office will accept, and reading a short folk text aloud with its meaning discussed. Rs 2,400 covers the eight sessions, which is Rs 300 a session.
