One hour at the Gaya academy on acoustic guitar, four students to a teacher. Chords, rhythm, and a song you can play end to end from the first month rather than a year of exercises first. The instrument commission is the thing to know about. A beginner is commonly sent to a named shop before the first class, and the teacher takes a cut of what is bought, which is why the recommended guitar is so often the wrong one. Here there is a house guitar to borrow free for your first four sessions, and when you do buy, a usable beginner acoustic is about Rs 4,500, we will tell you which and where, and we take nothing from the shop. The teacher plays at weddings and sessions through the year, so what is taught is what works in front of people.

• Open chords, barre chords, strumming and picking patterns, tuning, song structure
• Chord sheets for every song, yours to keep
• Four sessions Rs 1,700 against Rs 1,800 paid singly
• Above four sessions a month the music membership is cheaper at Rs 1,600 for eight, and we will point you at it
• Theory taught only as far as it makes you play better, and no grade examination is pushed unless you want one
• Your own guitar is needed from session 5, about Rs 4,500 for a usable beginner instrument, bought wherever you like
