The Shuunnya promise

A closed cohort of twelve with one named teacher for all six evenings, a free catch-up for anything you miss, and a course whose stated aim is that you never book here again.

  • Twelve people, cohort closed after evening one, nobody joins at evening four
  • The teacher named at booking teaches all six. An evening moves rather than swaps
  • Miss an evening and sit it again free with the next cohort, no explanation
  • Rs 400 an evening against Rs 249 a drop-in, and the page says what that buys

Details

Six evenings, an hour and a quarter each, with the same twelve people and the same teacher throughout. The stated aim is that at the end you can sit on your own without a room, a teacher or an app, and never book anything here again. The arithmetic, because you will do it anyway. Rs 2,400 over six evenings is Rs 400 an evening, against Rs 249 for a guided drop-in. The extra Rs 151 an evening buys three things: a fixed cohort, so evening four can build on evening three instead of starting again for whoever walked in; the teacher's preparation between evenings, which is where a course differs from a class; and a workbook you keep. If you would rather not pay for those, six drop-ins at Rs 1,494 is a perfectly reasonable alternative and we are not going to pretend it is not. Twelve people, and the same twelve. The cohort closes after evening one. Nobody joins at evening four, because a group that changes weekly cannot be taught as a sequence, and the undisclosed batch size is the standing cheat in Indian teaching. The teacher is named when you book and teaches all six. Not a senior name on the advertisement and a junior in the room. If she genuinely cannot take an evening, that evening is rescheduled rather than handed over. Nothing is recorded. There is no video, no audio and no app, which is deliberate: a recording turns the course into content and turns the cohort into an audience. That is exactly why the free catch-up week exists. Miss an evening and you sit that evening again, free, with the next cohort. Once, for any reason, no explanation needed. Miss two and you can take both with the next cohort, and the second one is free as well. The A.P. Colony room is being stood up and the timetable is not running yet. We are stating the room and the cap we have, not a facility that is already busy.

  • Six evenings, 75 minutes each, one a week: attention, breath, body, working with a wandering mind, working with difficulty, and building a practice that survives without a teacher
  • A printed workbook you keep, with the practices written out so you are not depending on memory
  • Capped at 12, cushions and chairs, phones in the box by the door
  • No religion, no mantra, no initiation, no lineage, no guru, no donation box, and nothing above this course to graduate to

Product information

The six evenings, and what the price actually buys
Shape
Six evenings, 75 minutes each, one a week, same day and time. Doors open 15 minutes before.
Evening 1
What attention is and what it is not, finding a position you can hold for half an hour, and the first fifteen minutes of practice. Anyone who decides after this that it is not for them gets everything back except Rs 249, the price of one drop-in.
Evening 2
Breath as an anchor. Why counting works for some people and irritates others, and how to tell which you are without spending a year on it.
Evening 3
The body: scanning, and what physical restlessness is doing when you sit. Chairs used properly rather than as a concession.
Evening 4
A wandering mind, which is the actual subject of the course. Noticing, returning, and dropping the idea that wandering is failure. Most people who give up meditation give up here and it is because nobody taught them this evening.
Evening 5
Sitting with difficulty: boredom, irritation, sleepiness, and a hard week. What to do and, more usefully, when to stop.
Evening 6
Building a practice that survives without a teacher. How long, when, where, what to do when you miss four days, and how to tell whether it is doing anything. The last twenty minutes are unguided on purpose.
The arithmetic
Rs 2,400 is Rs 400 an evening against Rs 249 for a guided drop-in. The Rs 151 buys a fixed cohort that can be taught as a sequence, the teacher preparation between evenings, and the workbook. Six drop-ins at Rs 1,494 is a real alternative and we will not pretend otherwise.
The room, honestly
One room of about 340 square feet, roughly 22 ft by 15 ft 6 in, on the ground floor in A.P. Colony. Twelve mats at 6 ft by 2 ft is 144 square feet of mat and the rest is space to walk between them. There is one toilet, a shoe rack and a water filter. There is no changing room, no shower, no lockers and no cafe. It is a room, not a facility.
Getting in
Ground floor, one step at the entrance, so a wheelchair needs a hand over that step. Street parking for two-wheelers outside; a car parks on the lane. Tell us before you book if the step is a problem and we will meet you at it.
What the struck price is
Rs 2880 is the standing rate. Rs 2400 is the opening rate while the A.P. Colony room fills up. Teaching four people in a room built for twelve costs the same as teaching twelve, and the opening rate is us carrying that rather than the first few people carrying it.
Missed evenings, refunds, and what is not claimed
Miss an evening
Sit it again free with the next cohort. Once, for any reason, and you do not have to explain. Miss two and you may take both with the next cohort, the second one also free.
Nothing is recorded
No video, no audio, no app. A recording turns a course into content and a cohort into an audience, and the catch-up week exists precisely so a recording is not needed.
Refund after evening one
Full refund less Rs 249, which is one drop-in for the evening you attended. Say so any time before evening two starts.
Refund after that
None, and the reason is the closed cohort: your seat is one of twelve and it cannot be resold mid-course. Stated here rather than found out later.
If the course does not run
If fewer than five people book, it does not run and everything is refunded in full. You are told at least three days before evening one, not on the evening.
No outcome is promised
Not calm, not better sleep, not less anxiety, not a changed life. Some people find sitting useful and some do not, and six evenings of honest teaching cannot tell in advance which you are.
Not a treatment
This is not a treatment for anxiety, depression, panic or insomnia. If you are being treated for something, keep being treated for it. If you have a psychiatric condition involving psychosis, mania or severe trauma, talk to your doctor first and tell the teacher, because extended silent practice is not neutral for everyone.
No ladder above it
There is no advanced course, no residential, no teacher training, no lifetime membership and no annual renewal. This is the most expensive meditation thing we sell and its aim is that you stop needing us.
Who teaches, and if something goes wrong
The named teacher
Named when you book, teaches all six evenings. If she genuinely cannot take one, that evening is rescheduled rather than given to somebody else. A senior name on the advertisement and a junior in the room is the standing complaint about courses in this country and it is entirely avoidable.
Qualification
Formal meditation training and a current first aid certificate, verified with the issuing body. There is no statutory registration in India for teaching meditation, so there is nothing to display, and saying that is more use to you than a framed certificate from a body nobody can check.
No religion, no ritual
Nothing chanted at you, no mantra given, no initiation, no lineage claimed, no photograph on the wall, no donation box, and nobody asked to share anything about themselves.
The premises
Ground floor room in A.P. Colony, Gaya, on a municipal trade licence and registered under the Bihar Shops and Establishments Act.
If an evening was poor
An evening that did not run, ran short, or was taken by someone you were not told about is refunded at Rs 400 or repeated free with the next cohort, whichever you prefer.
The honest gap
The A.P. Colony room is being stood up and the timetable is not running yet. We are stating the room and the cap we have, not a facility that is already busy.
