The Shuunnya promise

A speaker whose power figure is continuous and both-channels-driven, whose runtimes carry the volume they were measured at, and which has no microphone on the board.

  • 2 x 15 W RMS into 4 ohm, both channels driven. No peak or PMPO figure
  • 20 h at 60 dB SPL and 4 h 30 at 85 dB, on a stated 19.2 Wh pack
  • No microphone fitted at all, so no wake word and nothing listening
  • Codecs named: SBC, AAC, LDAC. No aptX, because we hold no licence

Details

A sealed portable speaker for a terrace, a kitchen counter or a bucket of water at a picnic. It runs 20 hours, rinses under a tap, and has no microphone in it at all, so there is no wake word and nothing in the room listening. The power figure is where this category lies, and it lies in two directions at once. The first is peak instead of RMS: a speaker with a 15 W amplifier is sold as 30 W peak, or as 60 W PMPO, a unit with no definition behind it. The second is single-channel measurement, so a stereo pair is quoted at the figure one channel manages while the other sits idle. The third lie is the battery: 20 hours, printed with no volume beside it, measured at a level nobody actually listens at. So every number here carries its condition.

  • Amplifier 2 x 15 W RMS into 4 ohm at 1 percent THD plus noise, both channels driven simultaneously. No peak figure and no PMPO figure appears anywhere on this page
  • Two 48 mm full-range drivers, glass-fibre-loaded polypropylene cone on a neodymium motor, with one 70 x 45 mm passive radiator on the rear
  • Maximum 94 dB SPL at one metre on pink noise at under 1 percent distortion. Response 62 Hz to 20 kHz within plus or minus 3 dB, measured at one metre on axis
  • Battery 5,200 mAh at 3.7 V nominal, which is 19.2 Wh, and both figures are printed because milliamp-hours alone are not a capacity
  • 20 hours at 60 dB SPL at one metre, an average draw of 0.96 W. 4 hours 30 minutes at 85 dB SPL at one metre, an average draw of 4.3 W. Two runtimes, two volumes, no up to
  • Bluetooth 5.3 with SBC, AAC and LDAC, named individually. There is no aptX, because that needs a licence we have not taken, and printing the logo without it is exactly the kind of thing this shelf exists to avoid
  • Latency about 180 ms on SBC and 120 ms on AAC, so you can decide for yourself whether to watch video on it
  • 3.5 mm line in, and a USB-C port that also gives 5 W out to charge a phone
  • IP67 to IEC 60529, tested at one metre for 30 minutes with the port cover closed. It floats. The woven cover comes off and washes
  • No microphone is fitted. Not disabled in software, not switched off in a menu. There is no microphone on the board
  • Battery replaceable at Rs 890 behind four Torx T6 screws with a reusable gasket, and old cells come back to any Shuunnya LifeStore for recycling
  • The honest trade is bass. A sealed 19 Wh box with 48 mm drivers rolls off below 62 Hz and no amount of processing changes that. It is tuned flat rather than given a bass hump that would clip at volume
  • There is no Shuunnya service-centre network. A warranty claim means sending the speaker to us, with no turnaround time promised
