The Shuunnya promise

A reading and working tablet whose refresh rate, flicker, battery capacity and charging rate are all measured figures rather than headline ones.

  • 120 Hz system-wide, browser and reader included, not only the launcher animation
  • DC dimming, flicker under 3 percent to IEEE 1789 at every brightness, so no PWM
  • 8,000 mAh at 3.87 V, or 31.0 Wh, 1,200 cycles to 80 percent, spare Rs 1,690
  • Four years of OS upgrades, six of security to July 2032, no ads and no account

Details

A tablet sized for a book, a drawing or a spreadsheet. The 11 inch panel runs at 2560 x 1600, there is a matte screen protector in the box because most people read on these for hours, and the four speakers are tuned flat rather than boosted. Two cheats are specific to a tablet of this size and both are measurable. The first is the 120 Hz that only the home screen runs at: the launcher animates at 120, and the browser, the reader and most applications drop to 60 without telling you, so the number on the box describes a wallpaper. The second is PWM. An inexpensive panel dims by switching the backlight on and off hundreds of times a second, which is invisible to most people and gives a significant minority a headache within twenty minutes, and no box in this category prints a flicker figure at all. Beside them sit the two general ones: a battery quoted in mAh with no voltage, and a charging wattage that is a peak rather than a rate. All four have numbers below.

  • 120 Hz across the whole system, including scrolling in the browser and the reader, not only the launcher animation
  • DC dimming at every brightness level, percent flicker under 3 percent against IEEE 1789. No PWM anywhere on the scale
  • 11.0 inch IPS, 2560 x 1600, measured 486 nits full-screen white on a production unit, sRGB 99 percent, Delta E under 2 after factory calibration
  • 8,000 mAh at 3.87 V nominal, which is 31.0 Wh. Both figures printed
  • 12 hours of reading at 150 nits and 60 Hz, and 6 hours 40 minutes of video at 300 nits and 120 Hz. Two numbers, two conditions
  • Battery rated for 1,200 charge cycles to 80 percent of its rated 31.0 Wh, and replaceable when it finally tires
  • 30 W USB-C Power Delivery charger and cable in the box. 30 W is the peak; averaged over a full charge it is about 22 W at the wall, and 0 to 100 takes about 95 minutes
  • Storage is UFS 3.1 at a sequential write of 1,100 MB/s, soldered, and stated as soldered. A microSD slot to 1 TB and a 3.5 mm jack are both kept
  • No IP rating, and none is printed. Six Phillips screws, a clip-fit back and a replaceable battery are what we chose instead of a sealed shell
  • Every unit is new. No returned display or battery is fitted into a new tablet
  • There is no Shuunnya service-centre network. A warranty claim means sending the tablet to us, and no turnaround time is promised because none can honestly be promised yet

Product information

Display, silicon and storage
Panel
11.0 inch IPS, 2560 x 1600, 120 Hz. One panel part number for the life of the model
Where the 120 Hz applies
System-wide: the launcher, the browser, the reader, the settings and the drawing surface. Applications are not silently capped to 60 Hz
Brightness
486 nits measured full-screen white at the centre of a production unit
Colour
sRGB 99 percent, Delta E under 2 after factory calibration
Flicker
DC dimming at every level, percent flicker under 3 percent against IEEE 1789, measured across the whole brightness range and not only at maximum
Processor
Eight cores, 6 nm. Part number and launch year printed on the specification sheet in the box
Memory
8 GB LPDDR5, soldered, and stated as soldered
Storage
128 GB or 256 GB UFS 3.1, soldered. Sequential write 1,100 MB/s, random write 240 MB/s. Plus a microSD slot to 1 TB
Body
6063 aluminium unibody, 6.9 mm, 480 g
Water and dust
No IP rating, and none is printed. A clip-fit back over a replaceable battery is what we chose instead
Ports
USB-C 3.2 Gen 1 with DisplayPort output, 3.5 mm jack, microSD
Battery, charging, sound and software
Battery
8,000 mAh at 3.87 V nominal, which is 31.0 Wh. Replaceable, with the cell's manufacturing week printed on the pack
Cycle life
Rated 1,200 charge cycles to 80 percent of the rated 31.0 Wh. At one full cycle a day that is over three years before it reaches the threshold
Runtime, reading
12 hours at 150 nits and 60 Hz on Wi-Fi, about 2.6 W average
Runtime, video
6 hours 40 minutes at 300 nits and 120 Hz, about 4.7 W average
Charging
30 W USB-C Power Delivery peak, about 22 W at the wall averaged over a full charge. 0 to 100 in about 95 minutes. About 35 Wh from the socket for 31.0 Wh into the cell, a conversion loss of roughly 12 percent
In the box
30 W USB-C Power Delivery charger, USB-C cable, and a matte screen protector, because a glossy panel read for four hours is the wrong surface
Sound
Four drivers tuned flat rather than boosted. They will not do bass and no 6.9 mm slab can
What is not on it
No pre-installed games or trials, nothing you cannot remove, no ads on the home or lock screen, no account required to open a file. Telemetry off by default
Update window
Four years of LifeOS Mobile version upgrades and six years of security patches, to July 2032, with the end date printed on the box
Repair, warranty and spares
Fasteners
Six Phillips screws and a clip-fit back. No adhesive on the back cover or the battery. Repair manual free to download
