The Shuunnya promise

An everyday handloom kurta with the mark that proves the loom, and every number on the page tested rather than claimed.

  • Handloom Mark on every kurta, against powerloom cloth sold as handloom
  • 100 percent cotton by ISO 1833, no polyester under a cotton label
  • Pre-shrunk to under 2 percent residual, so it holds size on the first wash
  • Azo screened to EN 14362-1, no restricted aromatic amine above 5 mg per kg

Details

A straight kurta in 140 GSM handloom cotton woven in Erode, Tamil Nadu, in 40s yarn, carrying the Handloom Mark issued through the Textiles Committee. Erode weaves a clean, dense plain weave that takes daily wear and daily washing without thinning at the shoulders. The mark matters because the cheat here is specific. Powerloom kurta cloth is sold as handloom every day of the week, and once it is stitched nobody can tell by looking. Beside it sit the ordinary three: polyester in the yarn under a 100 percent cotton label, a GSM nobody weighed, and a garment that was never pre-shrunk, so it comes back from the first wash a full size smaller and the customer blames themselves.

  • Handloom Mark on every piece, woven in Erode, Tamil Nadu
  • 100 percent cotton by ISO 1833 fibre composition, no polyester blended in
  • 140 GSM measured to ISO 3801
  • Residual shrinkage under 2 percent after five washes, ISO 6330, so buy your usual size
  • Azo screening to EN 14362-1, no restricted amine above 5 mg per kg
  • Colourfast 4 on the ISO 105 grey scale to washing, 4 to 5 dry rubbing, 3 to 4 wet on deep shades
  • 14 stitches per inch, bar-tacked at the slit heads where kurtas actually tear
  • Slubs run through the cloth and the selvedge wanders a little, because a person threw the shuttle
  • Indigo and maroon give up colour for the first two washes. White and cream do not bleed at all.
  • It creases, and it is meant to. No easy-care resin has been put on it.
