Details
Three vests in 180 GSM combed cotton rib, mill-knitted in Ludhiana, Punjab. This is machine-knitted cloth and it says so. There is no such thing as a handloom vest, and the honest claims here are about fibre, weight, shrinkage and what is not in the dye, which is where a vest is actually cheated. The cheat that costs you most is the weight. A vest tagged 180 GSM is very often knitted at 140 or 150, because thirty grams a square metre across a run of a hundred thousand pieces is real money and no shopper owns a scale. You find out when it goes transparent after a summer. Beside it: polyester spun into the yarn under a 100 percent cotton label, because polyester is cheaper and holds shape, and optical brightener sprayed on to fake a white that washes out in six weeks. And a vest that was never pre-shrunk drops a full size, which on a knit is 8 percent, not 2.
- 100 percent combed cotton by ISO 1833 fibre composition, no polyester and no elastane
- 180 GSM measured to ISO 3801, on every lot, not a tag figure
- Undyed and unbleached, so there is no dye and no optical brightener sitting against your skin all day
- Residual shrinkage under 3 percent after five washes, ISO 6330, which is honest for a knit
- Pilling grade 4 to 4 and a half after 2000 rubs, ISO 12945-2, because the yarn is combed
- Knitted as a tube, so there are no side seams to rub
- The natural cream is not a bright white, and it will not become one. Sun it and it lightens; bleach it and the fibre weakens.
- Combed cotton rib without elastane relaxes across a day of wear and comes back in the wash
Product information
Size chart, garment measurements in inches
- How to read it
- Rib knit measured FLAT and RELAXED, then doubled. The relaxed figure is much smaller than your chest and that is normal for rib. Match the body chest column.
- S
- Relaxed chest 32, stretches to 40, length 26. Fits a body chest of 36 to 38 in.
- M
- Relaxed chest 34, stretches to 43, length 27. Fits a body chest of 38 to 40 in.
- L
- Relaxed chest 36, stretches to 46, length 28. Fits a body chest of 40 to 42 in.
- XL
- Relaxed chest 38, stretches to 49, length 29. Fits a body chest of 42 to 44 in.
- XXL
- Relaxed chest 40, stretches to 52, length 30. Fits a body chest of 44 to 46 in.
- Length
- Measured from the shoulder at the neck to the hem, so it stays tucked in
- Tolerance
- Plus or minus 0.75 in, which is what a knit holds. A woven garment holds tighter; a knit does not.

Care, and what it will honestly do
- Wash
- Machine wash warm with a mild detergent
- Sanitising
- Safe to boil-wash. There is no dye to lose and no elastane to perish.
- Dry
- Sun dry. Sunlight is the only safe whitener for undyed cotton.
- Bleach
- No chlorine bleach. It will whiten the vest once and weaken the fibre permanently.
- Colour
- Undyed cream warms very slightly with age. A wash and a few hours of sun brings it back.
- Fit over the day
- Rib without elastane stretches a little as you wear it and recovers in the wash
