  • 100 percent cotton by ISO 1833 at a measured 120 GSM
  • Colourfast 4 to 5 to washing on the ISO 105 grey scale, safe in a mixed load

Details

Lounge pyjamas in 120 GSM handloom cotton woven in Erode, Tamil Nadu, in yarn-dyed checks and stripes, carrying the Handloom Mark issued through the Textiles Committee. Yarn-dyed means the thread was coloured before it went on the loom, so the pattern goes right through the cloth and there is nothing on the surface to wash off. Two frauds meet on this item. The first is the one the Handloom Mark exists for: powerloom cloth sold as handloom, which is undetectable in a shop and one of the largest frauds in Indian textiles. The second is quieter. A printed check is sold as a yarn-dyed check, because printing costs a fraction of dyeing yarn, and it is obvious only when you turn the cloth over and find the back is white, or when the colour runs into the rest of the wash. Then the usual: polyester in the yarn under a cotton label, and a GSM nobody weighed.

  • Handloom Mark on every pair, woven in Erode, Tamil Nadu
  • Yarn-dyed, not printed. Turn the cloth over, the pattern is identical on the back.
  • 100 percent cotton by ISO 1833, no polyester and no elastane
  • 120 GSM measured to ISO 3801
  • Colourfast 4 to 5 to washing and 4 to 5 dry rubbing on the ISO 105 grey scale, so it does not bleed into a mixed wash
  • Residual shrinkage under 2 percent after five washes, ISO 6330
  • Drawstring tacked at centre back so it cannot be pulled out and lost, and it is replaceable
  • Handloom cotton at 120 GSM is light and it creases. There is no finish on it to stop that.
  • A wide leg in light cotton wrinkles across the lap within minutes of sitting down
