Details
The layer that goes on first and stays on. Three bodysuits in cotton interlock at a measured 180 GSM, heavy enough to hold its shape after twenty washes and light enough for a Bihar summer. One word on this page is not a test result, and it should be flagged rather than left sitting among the ones that are. GOTS certifies a growing and processing chain. It lives on a transaction certificate, and no laboratory can look at a finished bodysuit and read it back out of the cloth. So beside that word we publish the things a laboratory can measure on the garment in your hand, and those are the numbers below. The body is 100 percent cotton, confirmed by ISO 1833. The neck binding and the leg binding are 95 percent cotton and 5 percent elastane, and we print that rather than rounding the garment to 100 percent. A binding with no elastane will not recover, and an envelope neck that does not recover is a slack neck inside a month. Rounding it away would be the same cheat this house denies everywhere else, so the two figures are printed separately. The sewing thread is polyester, about 2 percent by weight, because cotton thread breaks in a stretch seam and a burst crotch seam is a worse outcome than a thread that is not cotton. Sizing is by height and weight, and the month on the label is the least reliable number on the chart. Two babies at six months can be eight centimetres apart. The chart below gives the body height and weight each size is cut for, and then the actual garment measurement, so you can lay a bodysuit you already own next to it and compare like with like.
- Body 100 percent cotton interlock, 180 GSM measured to ISO 3801, fibre confirmed by ISO 1833
- Neck binding and leg binding 95 percent cotton, 5 percent elastane, printed rather than rounded away, because a binding with no elastane will not recover
- Sewing thread polyester, about 2 percent by weight, and declared for the same reason
- Formaldehyde below 16 mg per kg by ISO 14184-1, the infant level, against 75 allowed on adult skin-contact wear
- Azo amines below 20 mg per kg by EN 14362-1. APEO and chlorophenols below the limit of quantification. No optical brighteners under UV
- Saliva fastness DIN 53160-1 grade 5, because a shoulder gets chewed. Perspiration ISO 105-E04 and washing ISO 105-C06 both grade 4 to 5
- Residual shrinkage under 3 percent after three washes at 40 C, ISO 6330 measured to ISO 5077
- Envelope shoulders, so on a bad day the whole thing comes off downwards instead of over the head
- Three nickel-free press studs at the crotch: nickel release below 0.5 microgram per square centimetre per week to EN 1811, each pull-tested to 70 N, and still fastening after 50 open and close cycles
- Flat-locked seams and printed labels, both for the same reason: a baby lies on its back for most of the day and cannot move away from a ridge or a stitched tag
- No cords and no drawstrings anywhere, which EN 14682 forbids in the head and neck area for children under seven
- Cream, sand and sage. The palette is pale because pale is what holds these fastness grades, which is the honest reason rather than a styling one
- Rs 899 for three is Rs 299.67 a bodysuit, and Rs 949 for three is Rs 316.33. Machine wash at 40 C, no bleach and no fabric conditioner
Product information
Size chart. Buy by height and weight, not by month
- How to read it
- Height and weight are BODY measurements of the baby. Chest, length and sleeve are GARMENT measurements, laid flat, with the chest doubled. Two babies at six months can be 8 cm apart, so the month label is the least reliable line here
- 0 to 3 months
- Body 56 to 62 cm, 4 to 6 kg. Garment chest 42 cm, length 34 cm, sleeve 9 cm
- 3 to 6 months
- Body 62 to 68 cm, 6 to 8 kg. Garment chest 45 cm, length 37 cm, sleeve 10 cm
- 6 to 9 months
- Body 68 to 74 cm, 8 to 9 kg. Garment chest 48 cm, length 40 cm, sleeve 11 cm
- 9 to 12 months
- Body 74 to 80 cm, 9 to 10.5 kg. Garment chest 51 cm, length 43 cm, sleeve 12 cm
- 12 to 18 months
- Body 80 to 86 cm, 10.5 to 11.5 kg. Garment chest 54 cm, length 46 cm, sleeve 13 cm
- Length
- Measured at centre back from the shoulder seam to the crotch, unfastened
- Tolerance
- Plus or minus 1 cm, which is the honest tolerance on a cut-and-sew knit
- Pack
- 3 bodysuits, cream, sand and sage
Fibre, and every blend in the garment printed separately
- Body
- 100 percent cotton interlock, confirmed by ISO 1833
- Weight

- Neck and leg binding

- Sewing thread

- On GOTS
- It certifies a growing and processing chain and lives on a transaction certificate. No laboratory can read it out of a finished bodysuit. Everything else on this page was measured on the garment
- Shoulders
- Envelope fold, so it can come off downwards on a bad day
- Studs
- Three at the crotch. Nickel release below 0.5 microgram per square centimetre per week, EN 1811. Pull-tested to 70 N. Still fastening after 50 cycles

- Labels
- Printed inside. No stitched tag at the neck
- Cords
- None anywhere. EN 14682 forbids them in the head and neck area for children under seven
- Colours
- Cream, sand and sage. Pale because pale is what holds these fastness grades
